Welcome to COPD CANADA

  Together WE CAN!
     Care, Advocate, Network

(A registered Charitable Organization, made up of, and run by, Canadians living with COPD...(COPDer's Helping COPDer's)

               Care, Advocate, Network

If you're here, chances are you're seeking information.  You have a reason or a purpose. You may be a patient, caregiver, friend or family member. Or perhaps you're simply curious.

COPD Canada Patient Network has a purpose as well; to offer HOPE, Understanding, Information & Support;  to the newly diagnosed as well as  the veterans of this disease,  their families & support people.

We C are;

  • Especially about those who are simply "suffering with"  COPD rather than  "managing" their disease thus  allowing them  a more enjoyable and active lifestyle.

We A dvocate for

  • Better medicines (the readily available, newer generation meds; those recommended by the Canadian Thoracic Society but not necessarily covered under the provincial plans) Especially for those COPDer's whose incomes fall "between" the brackets

  • Better care

  • Earlier testing

  • Education for the COPD patient as well as the medical community

  • More Rehab facilities

  • Awareness - Of  the General Public & Our Policy Makers

We N etwork

  • Peer to Peer; Sharing.  We must be united; change doesn't happen unless it's worked for. We empathize, not just sympathize.

Together We CAN (Care, Advocate, Network) make a difference!   And WE WILL make a difference !!!

There is  Strength   in numbers and with 750,000 diagnosed COPDer's in Canada (and probably that many again undiagnosed or misdiagnosed ...

You're NOT Alone!!!     &

You CAN PLAN  for the tomorrows!

       We'll Do It Together!

According to Statistics Canada's 1997 published web reports on the leading cause of death, COPD ranks as #4.  By 2020 it is estimated that it will become the 3rd.

However; having said that;  ALL IS NOT LOST.   There are many things you can do to help yourself and MANAGE this disease.  There's no need for the tail to wag the dog.  You CAN  take control and it will make all the difference in the world.

There are medicines and treatments available today that weren't available a few years ago.  They'll  help tremendously with your Quality of Life (QOL).  You would be amazed.  But; you have to want it.  You have to do your part in managing this disease,  you must speak out for yourself and fellow COPDer's,  BUT FIRST

You must  educate yourself. Hopefully this site will be a start.

COPD Canada Patient Network is a registered Charitable Corporation. If you would like to become a member or if you're wondering "Why Membership"  Read this
