Do you remember when AIDS (HIV) first became
known? Do you remember the negativity surrounding it? It was
seen as a disease of gays. Even today the ignorant still hold
to that. But look how far our understanding, knowledge and
acceptance, and more importantly, even the medicines, have come? Heck; nowadays everyone clamors to jump on the
"spokesperson" bandwagon for AIDS.
Well COPD needs that exposure without
the current stigmatism of modern day leprosy. This is a lonely
disease for the 750,000 "diagnosed" cases here in Canada, and even
lonelier for those who choose, or are forced into isolation.
If you're Canadian and you, or a family member have
COPD,....please write a letter to one of our Government officials.
Ask what's being done about this disease and the thousands who die every
year because of it.
Use your own letter or copy, paste and modify one
of the form letters here.
Get involved. Either through this site, or somewhere else,
but just take the plunge and do it. Time is not a commodity for many COPDers.
Finally;
everything we do/have done has been the private funding (out of pocket) of
the web site creator and the Board of Directors. If you would like
to make a small tax deductible donation, it would be truly appreciated and definitely put
to good use. Especially with our efforts to reach those who suffer
with this disease; the ones who feel, and who truly are, alone.
Our biggest
concern? Those living in the rural areas. We are making every effort
to get our COPD Educational DVD in the libraries and bookmobiles across
the country. Can you help?
